Waterloo Minor Soccer will be hosting Mini and Entry level referee clinics for 2013.
Mini Soccer Referee Course - April 6/13 RIM Park Waterloo
This clinic is for those aspiring referees who are 12 and 13 years of age by March 31st, 2013. If you are 14 years of age by March 31st, 2013, you must take the Entry Level referee clinic, as you will be too old to take the mini soccer referee clinic. If you took the mini clinic in 2012 as a 12 year old, you will have to take the mini clinic again in 2013. By retaking the clinic, a referee is automatically registered for the 2013 season with the OSA and gets an opportunity to refresh their refereeing skills.
REGISTRATION FOR THIS CLINIC IS NOW CLOSED - CLINIC IS FULL
Entry Level Referee Clinic - March 18, 20, & 23 (you must attend all three days)
REGISTRATION FOR THIS CLINIC IS NOW OPEN. This clinic is for those who would like to become a certified referee and are 14 years of age (by March 31st, 2013) and older. By taking the clinic, a referee is automatically registered for the 2013 season with the OSA and does not have to register again until the following year. Individuals can search and apply to register in a clinic starting January 30th, 2013.

New for Annual Registration Process for 2013
In 2012, the referee registration system was switched from AIMS to RefCentre, and based on the calls and emails that we did NOT receive during the registration season, it was a pretty smooth transition for the referee.
Now that we have made progress there, the Ontario Soccer Association Referee Development Committee and the Referee Development Department will be instituting the following requirement to the annual registration process:
All RETURNING referees aged 15 and over, must complete an online education evaluation in the Laws of the Game (2011-2012 LOTG) and current FIFA amendments as part of the 2013 Referee Registration.
The evaluation will consist of the following:
- District Referees – 10 questions, 5 videos
- Regional Referees – 15 questions, 5 videos
- National and Provincial Referees – 15 questions, 10 videos
There will be no pass/fail; no time restrictions, and will not have to be completed in one sitting – referees can return to it multiple times until completed. This option will open February 1, 2013 and remain open through the 2013 registration season. Once this is completed, the referee’s registration can be processed.
Purpose of change:
The results of this evaluation will help direct future education and learning opportunities in the district and across the province.
-
It will demonstrate to the referees what their personal knowledge level of the current LOTG sits.
-
The system will produce a report that will show a district where the majority of their referees are strong in knowledge of LOTG, and where there are visible weaknesses.
-
The results report will be able to be retrieved by the District Referee Coordinator through the registration season.
The results report will allow both the district and referee to clearly direct their education and personal development.
Potential Impact:
This will affect over 5,500 plus referees in 2013 and will add anywhere from 20 minutes to one hour to the individual registration process.
Any referee who does not have access to a computer can visit the local library for free access options. As the videos will be embedded through YouTube, an educational setting may restrict the playing of the videos. Districts may be able to host “Referee Registration nights” where referees with no access to a computer can complete the evaluation; or in a group setting.
The evaluation will not hold a pass/fail weighting, and no referee will be downgraded/demoted etc. for not passing. However, this evaluation must be completed in order for the referee to register. This is an official part of the registration process for 2013, and moving forward.
